I stand against any discrimination of any human being in any parts of the world. But when it comes to HINDRAF outrage in Malaysia there are some questions one should ask to Hindu Rights Action Force officials. As an Indian, I believe ethnic Indians in Malaysia; still enjoy more rights than Indian citizens who is living in their own country. Since the living standards of Malaysia are far higher than India, I also agree that Hindus in Malaysia need a better deal. As a community with migrant history, majority of Malaysian Indians are Hindus while it also include a minuscule of Muslim, Christian and Sikh presence. The so called “Indian” heritage in Malaysia cannot be limited with Hindu minority in Malaysia.
Unlike Malaysia, discrimination against Indian citizens in India has a multitude of factors. One is the religion and the other is caste factor.
In India, religious discrimination is worst against Muslims followed by Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, and Jainism. The traces of Hindu caste system can be visible among India’s minority communities too. Due to Hindutva’s burgeoning alliance with Zionism, Jews are not attacked or either they are helped to migrate to their dreamland, Israel. Hindutva patriots will never question patriotism of Indian Jews. In 2005, Business Week reported that India became Israel’s largest importer of weapons, accounting for about half of the $3.6 billion worth of weapons exported by the Jewish state.
But in terms of Caste discrimination, it totally alienate lower caste Hindus, Dalits and Tribal or aborigines, who together contribute the largest segment of Hindu religion. Caste system is a part of a Hindu belief that people inherit their stations in life based on the sins and good deeds of past lives.
For the past 60 years the higher caste Hindu elite, effectively ruling this nation under the false cover of democratically elected government. Since majority of Indians are illiterate, it is easy to manipulate their votes offering food kits, liquor, subsidies, and even free Television!
Crime-politics nexus also influences the democracy in India. Most of the ministers in elected democratic governments are from criminal background. They are entering into the political arena, influencing the decision-making at the highest level in their own favor and thereby increasing corruption through patron-client relationship. The reason for this pervasive political corruption, in spite of six decades of democracy, is because we, in India, do not elect representatives but patrons. The rich and the avaricious as well as the poor and the stricken, vote on this principle. Lack of transparency within the bureaucracy is also another important factor responsible for promoting public corruption.
Any attempts from the state to introduce an affirmative action plan to help the down trodden of India, primarily defeated by upper caste student agitations in the campus. In a country where more than 92 % children cannot progress beyond secondary school, a support base for the backward communities in campus is beyond imagination. Furthermore, Indian judiciary is loaded with upper caste judges and they will spoils any affirmative action of the state by restricting reservation quota.
On the other hand, India contributed about $14.5 billion to the US economy through the expenditure on tuition and living expenses by sending the students to US. As a country, it dominated with one in seven (14.4 percent) of the total of 582,984 international students. [The Open Doors 2007, US Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs Report] In the same period, Australia earned about 500 million Australian dollars from the export of educational services to India. Please note that Government of India’s spending on education is lesser than one-fifth of its defense budget!
The dominant group of Hindu nationalists come from the three upper castes ( Brahmins, Kshatriyas, and Vaishyas ) that constitute only 10 per cent of the total Indian population. But, they claim perhaps 80 % of the jobs in the new economy, in sectors such as software, biotechnology, and hotel management. Thus, Hindutva storm troopers promote enormous blogs, web campaigns and forums to control the media to implement their own political will. India’s fake super power status is also something created by this elite group of Hindu caste who don’t want to care the alienated Hindu classes and minorities.
Let us begin with the educational statistics from Tamil Nadu State itself.
Out of 427 faculties available in Chennai IITs (Tamil Nadu) 400 are from Brahmin caste and only 4 of them are Dalit. Every year, Government of India spend a whopping amount of $ 2000 million for the expenses of IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Gawhati, Kanpur, Kharaghpur, and Madras). But, Indian IITs function as a free educational institute dedicated to the upper class Hindus. Even though IITs are proclaimed as institutions with national importance, 96% of the IIT graduates usually migrate to west or find a job with a multinational corporate company.
According to the Indian census of 2001, the total population was 1.028 billion. Hindus numbered 827 million or 80.5 %. About 25 per cent (24 million) of those Hindus are belonging to Scheduled Castes and Tribes. About 40 per cent (400 million) are “Other Backward Castes”.Even though, 15 per cent are belonging to Hindu upper castes, they inherited civil service, economy and active politics. And thus the caste system virtually leaves lower caste Hindus in India to an oppressed minority.
Udit Raj, the prominent Dalit intellectual from India, recalls caste issues in Malaysia in his book,
“Caste Hindus can give up anything, including their life, but caste attitude. In 1998, when I was invited to attend the first Dalit International Convention at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, it was unbelievable at first sight, but became a reality, when I attended. About 150 years back, British took Indians to Malaysia as labourers and assistants and eventually Indians made their homes there. More than one million Hindus are living there, but are still maintaining their caste identity. Dalits living in Malaysia have lots of grievances, which is not a contribution of the concerned soil, but virus went with them. So far, no medicine has been manufactured that can kill the caste virus” ” Dalit & Religious Freedom, 2005“, chapter 38.
Considering the media manipulation techniques, time line and nature of the Hindu outrage in Malaysia, there are many reasons to believe that HINDRAF and Uthay Kumar is closely associated with RSS, a Hindu Taliban who already spoiled India’s social fabric with fascist propaganda and communal riots. Hindutva role in Communal Riots
Mr. P. Waytha Moorthy, the Chairman of Hindu Right Action Force, in fact is the Malaysian representative of global ‘Hindutva’ brother hood called Vishva Hindu Parishat. He also work with Hindu charity institutions like Hindu America Foundation and UK based SEWA International , both of them are in control of their parent demon, RSS . Both of these charity organizations were involved in funding anti minority riots in India. Hiring such a hate monger and ardent admirer of Aryan Hindu supremacy to solve issues of Malaysian Tamils will back fire soon. Tamil values are much closer to Dravidian culture and it will never tolerate the Aryan ideas of racial purity and dictatorship of Brahmins.
Instead, Tamil Hindus should find ways for peaceful dialogue with Malay organizations and concentrate more of their energy for caste and poverty eradication. The thoughts of Thanthai Periyar E.V. Ramaswamy should be their guide light, than the false propaganda war initiated by Hindutva and its militant mafia gang, RSS.
Do you know why? RSS is the Hindu-supremacist organization that has fueled a rise in anti-Dalit, anti-Muslim, anti-Christian and anti-Sikh violence. The former ruling party, the BJP is the political arm of the RSS and helped fascism to spread across civil, judiciary, defence and educational streams of the society. Under India’s notorious caste system, upper caste Hindus inherited key positions and controls all the governmental branches. Violence against victims largely goes unpunished due to the support of this upper caste crooks.
The man, who killed Mahatma Gandhi in January 1948 for seeking conciliation with Minorities Nathuram Vinayak Godse, was a Brahmin and at one time belonged to the RSS. That’s part of the Sangh’s legacy. And it has not only spawned the VHP, but numerous other radical organizations backing the RSS, notably the Shiv Sena (Shiva’s Army) party of Bal Thackeray, a self-declared Hitler fan.”
Since Indian community issues in Malaysia is considered as a ‘Minority vs majority‘ issue, let us also compare the statistics of Indian Muslims, in India it self. Unlike Malaysian Hindus, Indian Muslims have not arrived from outside.
Recently, Justice Rajinder Sachar Committee report admitted that 138 Million Muslims across India are severely under-represented in government employment, including Public Sector Units. Ironically, West Bengal, a communist ruled state reported 0 (zero) percent of Muslims in higher positions in its PSUs! It has found that the share of Muslims in government jobs and in the lower judiciary in any state simply does not come anywhere close to their population share. The only place where Muslims can claim a share in proportion to their population is in prison! (Muslims convicts in India is 19.1%, while the number of under trials is 22.5%, which exceed their population ratio) . A note sent on January 9 by the army to the defence ministry in 2004 says that only 29,093 Muslims among a total of 1.1 million personnel — a ratio of 2.6 %, which compares poorly with the Muslims’ 13 % share in the Indian population. Officially, Indian Army don’t allow head count based on religion.
A Muslim child attends school for three years and four months, compared to the national average of four years. Less than two percent of the students at the elite Indian Institutes of Technology comprise of the Muslim community.
Please note that, Malaysian Indians are not the original inhabitants of the country; but Indian Muslims are from the same racial and ethnic groups as their compatriots. And still they face discrimination in the world’s largest democracy called India. (Ref. Indian Express, The Missing Muslims)
81 % Malaysia’s ethnic Indians are mostly from the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, an impoverished land lagging with illiteracy and feudalism fueled by Delhi’s north favored rule. The traditional Hindu caste system compelled caste minorities including Dalits to move even to Sri Lanka. But unfortunately, this Tamils are currently in extreme war with their own hosts, Sinhalese!
Does Tamil community in Malaysia want to do the same rebellion to their own host, the Malays?
The Tribune News paper has a story about Malaysia’s care to India. “In 1971, Malaysia sent a team to enquire about the welfare of its pensioners residing in Punjab. Further, pensions paid in that country are free of income tax,” The Tribune, February 20, 2003, Chandigarh, India.
Do HINDRAF want to trouble the interests of Malaysian Indians by misleading Tamil Hindu community against such generous government like of Malaysia? Can we expect proper pension from India Government?
The Human Development Report for 2007-08 released by the UNDP ranked India 128 out of 177 countries, working it out through measures of life expectancy, education and income. Malaysia ranked 63 and listed at under High Human Development category. The report found that India’s GDP per capita (purchasing power parity) is $3,452, far below Malaysia’s $10,882. Indian workers form the third largest foreign work force in Malaysia, with 140,000 of them seeking out a living there. Most of these migrant workers are the relatives of ethnic Indians who comprise 7% of Malaysia’s population of around 24 million.
Every year, more than 1 million Indian citizens are forced to leave their country in search of better life.
Indians form about half of the 2.6 million expatriate workers in the United Arab Emirates’ private sector which includes Hindus, Sikhs, Muslims and Christians. In 2006, India received the highest amount of remittance globally from migrants, 27 $Billion. The large part of it came from the Gulf expatriate workforce.
Further, Indian government expects overseas Indians to pump in about US$500 billion into the FOREX reserves of the country in the next 10 years, making them the single largest source of foreign receipts. Do Indian Government want to hurt their own economy by interfering in Malaysian affairs?
Migrated Hindus from India constitutes 1 million or 0.4 per cent of US population now. With the approval of U.S authorities, they built around 1,000 Hindu temples throughout the US. The generosity of the American administration did n’t stop Hindutva idiots from bashing Christian around the globe.
In Tamil Nadu, last year, 250 temples were brought down to earth following High Court orders in Madurai. The reason was those temples were built on public property. There were no protests. Tamil Hindus there thought such a drive was carried out in the interest of people at large.
Like India, thousands of smaller Hindu temples, often originating in the placement of a deity under a tree, should have mushroomed across Malaysian rubber plantations and the rural countryside. As the Hindu community grew, some of them may be converted to larger structures and government should have brought down in public interest. But why so much huge and cry in Malaysia alone?
By falsely claiming of “Ethnic cleansing against Hindus in Malaysia”, HINDRAF officials are working against the interests of India’s peaceful migrant community around the world. While Dalits, Lower castes, Sikhs, Chrisitans and Muslims are the daily victims of Hindutva’s communal riots in India, Tamil Hindus in Malaysia haven’t faced any single riots orchestrated by Malay Muslims.
Remember that India, as a country cannot offer you food or job. Tamil politicians are engaged in lip service.
Tamil Nadu records the highest poverty level among other southern states of India. One of the major problems faced by the state is rural women’s disempowerment and girl-child discrimination. Nearly 45% of the AIDS patients in India live in Tamil Nadu, although there has been some decline in the HIV prevalence in the state due to improved efforts.
Leaders with Dravidian origin have limited say in India’s central government which is ruled by majority north Indian Aryans. They consider TamilNadu as the bastion of opposing imposition of north Indian rule and its Hindi language in its territories. South Indians mostly consider English as their national language than Hindi. This north and south division has a long history in India and will continue to go on for ages, as long as people in India continue to remain emotionally myopic, narrow minded and accepting of propaganda and social myths. Hindutva vs Tamil culture
Before the invasion of Aryans, Tamils have practiced a dual spirituality called Saivism and Thirumalism . But Brahmins enslaved Tamils with cultural and spiritual corruption.
The Hindu nationalist movement headed by Brahmin chiefs grew up in the 1920s with the establishment of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS ) The RSS gradually established a network of local branches that met daily for training sessions on martial arts. With ideological sermons making Indian identity synonymous with Brahmin culture it floated new motto even to the south, “Hindu, Hindi, Hindustan” (one people, one language, one country).
In 1965, after a 15 year gap, Hindi was declared as the solitary national language of India. This led to violent protests in Tamil Nadu and so many deaths of tamilians.
In 1996, Inspired by Hindu myths, a Marathi Hindu mafia leader called Bal Thackeray floated ‘Shiv Sena‘ a political party to drive out south Indians from the industrial city of Bombay. Shiv Sena means Army of Shiva, (referring to Hindu King, Shivaji) succeeded in its aim with the help of Hindu militants who unleashed several communal riots in the city.
In 1991, a Tamil Tiger suicide bomber killed India’s Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi ( A north Indian brahmin with aryan heritage) at an election rally outside Chennai. Those scars against Tamils are still run deep in north India, especially in a government dominated by Gandhi’s Italian-born widow Sonia.
When it comes to recording Indian history, the north of the country often ignores or overlooks events in the south. Tamils consider Vellore revolt as the first organized revolt against British in India, while Delhi officially consider it started with Sepoy Mutiny of 1857. Unlike north Indian Hindus, Tamils consider Lord Rama as the villain and Ravana as the hero. In such many ways, Tamil history and politics are in contradiction with India’s official version, which is in fact authored and promoted by Aryan north. The division within India’s caste maniacs is so deep and it cannot overcome to help anyone outside their circle.
Do the ethnic Indians in Malaysia want to come back to India? I bet none of them will come back to this sinking ship called, India. Instead of asking for more rights they should come out of their caste system and narrowness. Let them learn to respect their hosts, the Malaysian people who provided better opportunities than their caste maniac“Mother India”. Only such an attitude and kindness will bring them prosperity. As a Sri Lankan sinhalese, I would ask my Malay friends to be very careful about this HINDRAF movement. They can get foreign support to harm your country from weapon producing nations. In early stages, Tamil Tigers received support from Israel and India. Now, we are fighting them with the support of the same countries because we buy weapons from them! Sri Lanka was very prosperous country before Tamils started problem here.

The writer is totally ignorant of the conditions that exist in this country, Malaysia. Malaysian Indians, the bulk of them from South India, have been treated as third class citizens. Opportunities in education, economy, employment, are slowly being strangled for the Indians. They are still being treated as immigrants although the Indians have completely divorced themselves from being called Indians from India and prefer calling themselves Malaysian Indians. The straw that broke the camel’s back was the demolition of Indian temples. This resulted in the rally.
Malaysian Indians cannot go back to India because, as you have mentioned Indians still migrate.
So, the Indians in Malaysia have to assert their rights, not to grab anything from the other races, but to claim what is their own. Malaysian Indians have been taken for granted but fortunately Hindraf has brought the Indians together. Indians may not get anything at all, but the least, they cannot be chided for not trying.

The Indian protest in Kuala Lumpur has been a great success because it made a very loud noise. But the Indian protesters forgot to shout Daulat Tuanku. Instead they showed allegiance to Queen Elizabeth II by carrying placards that had Queen Elizabeth’s picture. Others also carried pictures of Mahatma Ghandi.
According to the NST, Hindraf legal adviser P. Uthayakumar said thatthey would ‘get a second bite at the cherry’ when they go to London in mid-January to present a memorandum to the Queen of England. But the Queen is reported to suffer constipation and some flatulence during cold winter months like January – a predicament inherited from her ancestors who avoided the privy in winter because they had no internal plumbing. She may not be disposed to receive Uthayakumar. But there is some confusion.
The NST reports: “We don’t want to rely on Indian-based parties anymore. We want to go directly to Umno because it is they who hold power,” said the lawyer who was in the midst of the illegal gathering yesterday. So is it Queen Elizabeth or UMNO? Unfortunately for the Indian community, all roads to UMNO go through Samy Vellu’s office.
This appeal to Queen Elizabeth and Mahatma Ghandi is a mistake. The banners scream ‘We are Malaysians’. To the other Malaysians, it seems to be that the protesters are Indian Hindus first and Malaysians second. The ethnic, religious identity is pushed forward. The name ‘Hindraf’ is also exclusive. It excludes Indians who are Christians, Sikhs and Muslims.
Why call it Hindu Rights Action Front? Why not just Indian Rights Action Front (INDRAF)? Why associate with religion? This is what some NGOs said – the Hindu Indians are making a mistake of projecting a narrow Hindu image.
However, the grievances and the protest by the Indian Hindus is real and justified.The BN Gomen’s failure to uplift the Indians is real. It is a big failure. The BN Gomen does not really care for them. UMNO says they want to be the payung for all Malaysians. This is a lie. They are the least bothered about the fate of the Indians. Uthayakumar’s idea that he
wants to go directly to UMNO may earn him a Datukship, but the Indians will not get anything else.
Hindu Tamils are now treated like fourth class citizens by the BN Gomen. Parties like MIC and PPP just get by on handouts for their community. The Tamils can be ignored by the UMNO boys. Why should the UMNO boys respect the Indians? While the Hindraf was protesting on Jalan Ampang, Nallakaruppan was hosting the founding of his new Indian political party called Malaysian Indian United Party (or Muniandy) at the Istana Hotel. In his speech, Nallakaruppan pledged allegiance to the BN. He said that the Muniandy party would support all the BN’s policies. Just a few months ago he was dancing on stage with Anwar Ibrahim in Ijok, hoping to be Keadilan’s candidate against the BN at the by-election. But since
Anwar dropped him in favour of a Malay, Nallakaruppan is now dancing to the UMNO-BN tune.
The Indians cannot depend on the BN Gomen or anyone else to uplift them. They have no choice but to uplift themselves. Like the Chinese, any community (including the Malays) that does not depend on the BN Gomen will become richer and more successful. This is because the BN Gomen itself does not have any idea how to uplift the people. This is a Gomen that is groping in the dark. The blind cannot lead anyone to light. They cannot see.
Historically, the majority of Indians came here as very poor people. But the Indians in India and Malaysia are not one uniform body. Indians are a small minority in Malaysia – making up less than 10% of the population. Numerically they are becoming even more irrelevant.
But this small minority is divided into so many sub-minorities almost all of whom are far richer and better off than the Tamil Hindus – the largest Indian group who were also the people protesting on Sunday. The Sindhi and Gujerati Hindus are business oriented. They may not even acknowledge that Tamil Hindus are human. In their belief the Tamils are children of Hanuman, the dark-skinned monkey god who helped their white-skinned god Ram rescue their white-skinned princess Sita Devi from the clutches of the dark-skinned Ravan.
Then we have the Ceylon Tamils. An irate Indian Tamil woman once said that the Ceylon Tamils in Malaysia are ashamed to say that they are also Indians or Tamils. So in official application forms where they must state their race, they put themselves under ‘Lain-Lain’ or Others, not as Indians. Few people may be aware of this but the Ceylon Tamils are by far the most successful racial group in Malaysia, whose per capita incomes may be higher than the Chinese, Gujeratis, Mamaks, etc. There are more millionaires per thousand people among Ceylon Tamils than any other race in Malaysia. The richest man in Malaysia is a Ceylon Tamil billionaire known as Ananda Krishnan.
There are the Sikhs who have their own axes to grind against the Hindus. The Sikhs have also done very well in Malaysia. They may have started as jagas and susu lembu sellers but now they are among the best doctors and lawyers in the country. Money lending is still their forte. In a nutshell, they are doing much better than the Tamil Hindus.
Then there are the RSS sympathizers in Malaysia. RSS stands for Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Nathuram Vinayak Godse, the Hindu extremist who murdered Mahatma Ghandi in 1948, was a member of the RSS. The RSS in India is led by Brahmins whose main purpose is to preserve the Hindu caste system and thereby preserve their positions. They do not look kindly at Mahatma Ghandi and none of them will have a picture of Ghandi in their homes, let alone hoist Ghandi’s picture at a public rally.
There is very little love lost between all these Indians. There are extremely very few intra-Hindu Indian marriages. It is almost impossible to see a Ceylon Hindu marry an Indian Hindu or a Gujerati marry a Telugu. You will not find any of the RSS Brahmins marrying any of the Hindraf people. It just does not happen. On the other hand, in Malaysia, there are thousands of marriages between Malays and Indians of all types and castes. This Sunday, 9th December, a extraordinarily beautiful and quite rich Malay woman is marrying a Hindu Tamil (who of course had to convert). The wedding will be held at a major hotel and will be reported in the Malay media. The Indian media will never cover such an event.
The RSS sympathizers did not support the Hindraf protest. Instead, they released a statement to the media that said: “the MIC and the Government had helped to fund, build, repair as well as settle relocation and land issues for temples nationwide.” In other words: what is there to complain about? There are enough temples. Caste and inter-Indian race differences are great. The discrimination and prejudices within the Indians is greater than from without. But that does not really affect the bread and butter issues that were the main reason for the protest on Sunday.
It is also mind-boggling that many Hindu success stories have come to a tragic end through outright murder. All too often Indians suffer violence at the hands of fellow Indians. This is not unlike the case with the African Americans and Mexican Americans who suffer tragic violence at the hands of their own people.
In Penang recently, a well known and very senior Tamil Hindu lawyer by the name of Annamalai was brutally stabbed to death by two Indians, most likely hired killers, in broad daylight. I knew Mr Annamalai who was over 60 years old and was a polite and gentle man. The killers have not been caught and neither is the motive known. A few years ago, a young
Hindu woman who owned three beauty salons in Klang was also brutally murdered by Indians. After being beaten and stabbed, her body was repeatedly run over by her own Pajero. The crazed intensity of the violence against her was unimaginable. Again, her killers were not found and neither was the reason for her murder known. Earlier to that, a young Tamil Hindu geologist who ran a very succesful geological services company in Bukit Mertajam was killed by Indians. His head was cracked open by an axe. His killers were never caught and neither was the reason for his murder known.
These were among the cream of their society in their own neighbourhoods – Indians who had come up in life through hard work and against much odds. They all suffered violent death at the hands of Indians. It could be any number of reasons why they were killed but often it is pure jealousy by Indians against fellow Indians. It is okay if a Chinese or Malay is succesful, but when an Indian makes good, any number of other Indians may become extremely jealous. And if there is even a hint of an insult or injury, real or imagined, it may be enough to trigger murderous action. So the Indians do not need extra enemies from outside to keep them down. They can be their own worst enemies.
First of all, the Indians must realise that holding up posters of Ghandi or Queen Elizabeth is brain dead. It would have been better if they held up posters of the great Tamil hero Veerapandian Kattaboman. But since no one knows what Veerapandian Kattaboman looked like, they could have even held up posters of the great Tamil movie hero MG Ramachandran or MGR who once portrayed Veerapandian Kattaboman in a Tamil movie. But why Ghandi and why on earth Queen Elizabeth II? This only proves that the Indian Tamils may have their feet planted here, but not all their thoughts are fully settled here.
The time for pussyfooting and endless talk is over. Indians must ‘bite the bullet’ and take decisive and practical action to help themselves. Since all the protests have been made, it is now up to the Indians to put forward what they really want to do.
On the issue of the comment by Sri Lankan Sinhalese, I disagree that the Tamils are to be blamed for the current situation of Sri Lanka. I have seen pictures of the atrocities committed by the Sri Lankan army towards innocent Tamil children and women. I have heard how the Tamils are treated in this land. What is really sad is the fact that Sri Lankan Sinhalese are supposed to practice the original Buddhism (based on the Pali language). Is this what Sidharta Gautama would have wanted? Where is the testimony based on the right living that was spoken by the great Siddharta? I respect the sayings of Siddharta and I would say that the atrocities commited by the Sri Lankan Sinhalese people are a great crime against the Buddha himself. If only he had seen what his followers would be doing today in his name. Right Living has found no place in Sri Lanka, instead it’s filled with weeping children, mothers and fathers – both Tamils and Sinhalese. Please consider stopping the killings. The Tamils are only defending their right to live and enjoy the fruits of their labor. And do read up on Buddhism and maybe the Sri Lankan Sinhalese will stop the killings….By the way, I owe my life to Buddhism. If only we were all thinking like Siddharta, we would know that all things are temporary, nothing is permanent. It’s not wrong for you to love the Tamils and it’s not wrong to share what you have with the Tamils. They are after all, human beings too. I have no problems sharing what I have with you, Sri Lankan Sinhalese and I’m a Tamil.

The author had obviously done lot’s of info gathering, but he fails to comprehend the basis of the protest. The claim that the indians are doing better in Malaysia is true, but he lacks the sensitivity to understand the expectation of a down trodden society which was always kept in the borders of jungles, and called upon only during the elections. Unlike FELDA (MALAY) settlers who were given lands FOC to develop (which they sell back to the Gov for millions) and also gain thousands of ringgits monthly as salaries and other bonuses the indians who toiled in the rubber estates still live below poverty line. They lack the even the basic education because their schools are left to beg for funds from public.Their estates are rarely near any health facilities, therefore they are not given the standard medical services required. The children who are smart enough to graduate to secondary schools( goverment schools) are not given the equal opportunity both in their curriculum or co- curriculum( no thanks to the Ketuanan Melayu mentality among the stupid malay teachers). When they do manage to cross this barrier the next hurdle is to get a place in the local public university (When their classmates- malay of course who can barely speak in english and who had copied them in the exams or those who barely passed the exams are selected for the most wanted courses). If they do get into the university then there are are a group of racist (Malay lecturers who pick on them and say racially demeaning words against them). Those who manage to escape this phase has to face the difficulties of getting jobs. The goverment does not want to employ them unless in the most critical sector( Medical) and the chinese employ them with double standards in promotions and wages. Those who do get the jobs in the goverment rarely promoted and those who promoted never get any where near top management. Those unlucky Indians who are in the management, do not enjoy the same privilage or the respect of their colleaques. They are riddiculed by their underlings( who are of course 98% malay) , since they cannot tolerate a non malay ordering them( stupid ketuanan melayu mentality again),. So these so called priviledged few have to live in humiliatian though they are considered successful. Those who did not fare well in the education end up being rubber tappers, or palm oil plantation worker. They are kept in check all the while by their employers and the local thugs who control the local MIC wing( Malaysian Indian Congress).Those who come to the towns when their job is taken over by the banglas, indons(who become bumiputera though not born in malaysia) or other immigrant workers face very though world. No proper education, no inherited property/land, no support from the goverment or the MIC ( UMNO DOG). Some of these indians forced in to the world of crime hoping to enjoy the fruit of their forefathers hard work like their fellow malaysians through the illegal ways.( The same happened to the chinese community in the 1970’s). These people are not hindu fundamentalist, they do not have word to describe the non hindus( Unlike muslims who call non muslims as kafir). Look. lets forget the malays. since Malays are given special priviliges ( which in my opinion is the worst thing that they can do) but lets compare between the indians and the chinese. what were their difference? the chinese knew about hard work, they knew about education, they knew about saving what ever little money that they had. the chinese and the indians are both about the same in what ever priviledge that were given to them. they both had their own schools. they both had their own college set up by the dominant party. The fact that the indians did not know how to play what ever the cards that were given to them was not the goverment’s fault ? what more do u want ? now. it is not the malays that is systematically keeping the indians down. the malays only control the goverment. and sadly contrary to what people think, its the economy and the people controling it that dictates the path of the nation. so. since 80% of most private companies are owned/managed by chinese, and in almost all those companies, the racial buildup would lean towards the chinese, why blame the malays alone ?

Madurai, Dec 6: Contrary to the alleged racial discrimination by the Malaysian Government, the Malaysia Tamil Writers Association has claimed ”Tamils are safe in the Muslim dominated country.” The recent protest rally by ethnic Indians in Kuala Lumpur, under the Hindu Rights Action Force (HINDRAF), an umbrella body of NGOs demanding equality and fair treatment in the Muslim majority country, had nearly sparked diplomatic row between India and Malaysia.
Talking to newspersons here last night, Malaysia Tamil Writers Association President P Rajendran, leading a delegation of 34 writers from Malaysia said, ”I would say it is the only Muslim majority country in the world, where the rights of ethnic minorities, especially Tamils are safeguarded and we all lead a life of peaceful co-existence.” On the number of schools with Tamil as medium of instruction had gone down sharply, Rajendran terming it ”wrong”, he said the Malaysian Government was giving due recognition to Tamil language.
He further said, at the primary level, Tamil was kept as a compulsory subject in Tamil medium schools while it was an optional subject in the middle and higher education.
Mr Rajendran said in fact the Malaysian police extended full cooperation during the Hindu festivals. About the police ban order on the recent rally taken out by HINDRAF, he replied that unlike in India, the Malaysian police would take strict action against any organisation including those of Malaysian or Chinese communities, if they did not get prior permission.
He refused to comment on the strong reaction made by the Malaysian Minister Mohammed Nazri Abdul Aziz against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for his supportive statement to the Malaysian Tamils.
Rajendran said the Malaysia Tamil Writers’ Association would establish an endowment in Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) to promote Tamil literature and strengthen literary exchanges between Tamil Nadu and Malaysia, based on the request from the School of Tamil Studies, MKU. The other details of establishing the endowment would be discussed with Mr Karunanidhi on December 11 at Chennai, he added.

India has different *kinds* of nuttiness, just to provide some variety in the hassle that travelers encounter. In Varanasi, its the ‘herds of buffalo and cow-shit covered streets’ variety of craziness, plus of course that pristine sliver of water known as the Ganges.
Agra, by contrast, is actually a fairly nice and relaxed place. It has a bad reputation among travellers, but it has incredible sights, the touts are generally not too hostile, and there’s plenty of good cheap food and the occasional friendly local. (On a practical note, if you go, stay at the Shanti Lodge for the great rooftop view and eat at Joney’s restaurant for the best food and service).
Then… there’s Delhi. My first impression of the city (besides, ‘Oh my God, modernity!’) has been: holy crap, people here are rude! I think possibly the rudest of any place I’ve ever been; I’ve already been yelled at four times in the space of a few hours, including by a policeman, some drivers, and some touts. Here, they don’t take no for an answer; they get nasty and start yelling at you. *Everyone* here has a huge chip on their shoulder – and not the usual ‘I-live-in-a-big-city-and-I-don’t-care’ rudeness, this is just gratuitous asshole-ness.

Indians form seven per cent of the population but the number of Indian lawyers and doctors make up almost 20 per cent of the total in the country.
There are 10 members of parliament from the Indian community — nine from the Malaysian Indian Congress and one from the People’s Progressive Party.
But in none of those parliamentary constituencies do Indian voters represent more than a quarter of the electorate. In fact, in seven of these constituencies, the Indian electorate accounts for only between 11 and 19 per cent of the voters.
In six constituencies, Malays form the majority and in four, the Chinese are slightly higher than the Malays.
So, if Indian votes were the criterion to win, would any Indian be able to be a member of parliament?
But what does Hindraf really want the Indians to do? Vote against all these Indian MPs from the government party, they said, purportedly to enhance the “Indian cause”.
What if the Chinese decided to place a Chinese candidate in the four Chinese majority seats and Malays in the other six? Which Hindraf supporter would represent the Indians in parliament or government? Stupid.
The provocateurs of the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) would certainly not win any prizes for standing up for the community. If they have done anything at all, it is to manipulate their community, disgrace their country, and tell such vile lies that even the most cynical of Malaysians would never believe.
